Recognizing that Launch Day Is Just the Start

While launch day is a huge deal, it’s just the very beginning of your book’s journey to reaching its audience. What do I mean? I’ll explain: many authors consider physical book sales as the ultimate goal. But they are only one piece of a wonderfully expansive puzzle.
Your publisher continues to work for your book long after launch day. Its rights team, for example, are constantly shopping rights to reach new audiences. Translation and audiobook deals, for example, open up entirely new worlds of passionate readers you might never have reached otherwise.
In fact, I’ve had titles land major translation deals a full decade after their initial release simply because the topic began trending in a new region. How exciting is that!
That’s why thinking about the long-term lifespan of your book is so important. When you build a timeless backlist, you create an enduring asset that keeps on giving.
